House Hunting is going great!

Well, this is just a little taste of our house hunting experiences so far...The first realtor showed us some houses in this neighborhood. Yeah, we'd be neighbors with Star wars characters! We thought some of our family members would be really excited about this!!! We could tell people, just turn left at the house with Darth Vador.... Surprisingly those houses weren't all that impressive and what we were looking for...so we won't be living in this neighborhood! (There's a lot of sarcasm in this post if you can't tell! :-) We are currently working with another realtor who is showing us foreclosures...there are alot of those in Colorado Springs right now and since we're trying to find a house we can afford we're hoping this may be a route to get us a house in a better neighborhood for our price range...we'll see!

Colorado Springs...

Our first few days in Colorado...

day at the zoo...

This is Taylor at the Cheyanne Mountain Zoo. She got startled when the giraffe came up to her the first time, but got used to them and fed them. We went to the zoo last Saturday for Tom's work. It was a lot of fun, but our most favorite part was the giraffes! You bought crackers for them and then they would come right up to you and eat it out of your hands. In fact, after I bought the crackers and was walking back over to Tom and Taylor this giraffe stared at me and literally raised it's eyebrows at me! I think these guys literally eat thousands of crackers from all the zoogoers everyday!

Jobs....

Well, Tom's job with the BSA is going really well so far. He seems to really be enjoying it and that's great. He's had several meetings and has been trying to learn everything. Saturday the BSA is having a day at the zoo so we all get to go to the zoo for free. Then, next week Tom gets to go up to the big scout camp here for a luncheon and to meet everyone up there. He's going to see if Taylor and I can come along.

I just got a job too! I have been teaching a pilates/yoga class to some of my friends for free this last year to give me experience teaching. Well, I contacted the fitness director at a local health and racquetball club and he let me come in and interview for a subsitute fitness instructor position and he hired me! It was the craziest interview/paperwork filling out session I have ever had b/c I had Taylor with me and she was so fussy from teething. I filled out the last of the application and paperwork standing up holding her and bouncing her on my hip. Anyway, for now I'll just teach whenever the established teachers can't which is perfect for being a mom b/c I never have to go, only when it is convenient for my family. AND, Tom and I get a free membership to the club! Even if I only teach a couple classes a month we get to use the club all we want! It's a really nice club too with a pool, tennis courts, great equipment and lots of classes. I am pretty excited!

Mel and Tay at Garden of the Gods...

This was 2 1/2 weeks ago when we were here for Tom's job interview. His interview went so well that they offered him the job on the spot and now were here for good! Well, at least for about 3 years and then we'll see what happens.

First Post...

Hey everyone and welcome to our blog! I've been trying to get this started for a while, so hopefully it will all work out and will be a fun way to keep you updated. Well, we are doing great! We just moved to Colorado Springs last weekend and Tom started his new job today. So far so good! The weather here has been quite crazy though! It starts out perfect and beautiful and then in the afternoon it turns dark and dreary and storms like crazy for a while (30 minutes-1 hour) and then it clears up again. I was so excited about all the outdoor things there are to do, but I am a little nervous about going out on a hike or something and getting caught in a huge storm. At least it's good in the morning. Today we went on our first jog in Colorado and it was great. We just went around our neighborhood and found a nice trail to jog on. We are also planning on joining the Pikes Peak Road Runners organization together so we can run free 5ks and get discounts and stuff. It does seem like there will be so many fun things to go and do and see like touring the Air Force Academy, going to Garden of the Gods, we've heard the zoo is great, downtown looks like it'll be fun to walk around along with Old Colorado City. Anyway, the people are really friendly, there are dog parks for Maddie and I think it's finally sunk in that we'll be here for a while. Well, I'll try to add pictures and will try to do it regularly so check back often! I hope you're having a great day!!! ~Mel
