4th of July Holiday

We had a great few days last week. We left on Wednesday morning and drove to Tom's parents in northern Utah. It was great getting to see our family even though it was for such a short time. Thursday we went to one of our favorite places to eat, Costa Vida for lunch and then we went to the American West Heritage Center in Logan, Utah. Then we went to our brother Mar's house in Utah for a big family BBQ.

Friday morning we ran in a super fun 5k. Then we went to the park in Riverside, Utah (where Tom grew up) for the smallest parade I've ever seen, games, then a family picnic that afternoon followed by more fun at the Riverside park and then the firework show, which was really great for such a tiny town!

We left to come back home on Saturday morning. We stopped in Sandy, Utah to see my cousin for a few minutes and then drove through Colorado to Glenwood Springs and stayed the night there. Sunday we drove the rest of the way home and learned a very important lesson and that is to NEVER drive home on I-70 East on a Sunday, especially after a holiday weekend! It was only supposed to take 3 1/2 hours on Sunday to get home but it took an extra 4 hours because the traffic was so crazy! I think at one point it took us about a half hour to go 5 miles! Crazy! Well, we'll hopefully never do that again. It was a gorgeous drive though! Glenwood Springs was a cute, mountain town (about 40 miles north of Aspen) and we drove through Vail and lots of other touristy towns. We saw lots of waterfalls, the beautiful Colorado river and it was all just breathtaking! I love Colorado! Anyway, here a just a couple (plus 18) pictures from our trip:
Taylor looking at some animals at the America West Heritage Center. My brother in law and his family volunteer here so we all got to go and see it. The kids enjoyed all the friendly animals.
the fam at the farm...
oops! I should have turned these pics! Oh well. This is our Max (on the bottom) and his cousin, whose nickname is Max and they were born on the same day too!
Two cute little guys!
This is our sister in laws Amanda and Colleen and our neice Sierra (Colleen's daughter). We all got up at the crack of dawn Friday morning to run in the Beaver Dam 5k. It was great!

Sierra ran the whole thing except the last couple hundred yards with me. It was her first time to run 3 miles and she did amazing!
Tom hasn't been running much lately but he still ran it in under 23 minutes! He's an awesome runner. I love that we both love to run!
Our daughter the dog stalker! (Taylor LOVES dogs!)
Taylor and our nephew Jared.
This was so funny to me. This is how Taylor lounges with our dog Maddie at home. So, she evidently loved having a replacement dog for a while. Thankfully, this dog was so friendly.

The two cute men in my life!
This was Taylor's face during the whole firework show...

Anna Lea and Max...Max was born on her birthday.

goofy girl!
At dinner at Beau Joe's in Glenwood Springs, CO. It was really good if you're ever stopping through!
That was our dinner, a medium pizza with wholewheat crust, pesto, chicken, artichoke hearts and mushrooms for 15 bucks. It was really good and so filling. We had 3 peices left we took the the hotel with us.
at the Marble Slab Creamery in downtown Glenwood Springs.
Downtown Glenwood Springs...It was such a quaint town! Gotta love the sparkly lights and the hanging baskets full of flowers. I loved it!
Well, that's what we've been up to lately! I hope everyone had a great 4th!

Really cute pictures. I didn't know there was a 5k in Beaver Dam. I totally would have ran in it. Tom is an excellent runner!!! That is so nice that both of you like to run. My husband isn't really in to running. So fun to get together with family isn't it?

Your kids are too cute! Taylor and Max are so lucky to have you for a mom. I watched your 21 day cleanse blogs like crazy for inspiration for my commitment to not eat after 8:30. It was difficult, but it's now a habit. Your family is darling. -christine (sister davis)

We love Costa Vida too! Unfortunately we haven't eaten any Mexican in Paris besides what I make. That is one stop we make when we go to Utah. Taylor is such a cute girl!

What a fun holiday! You're family is just simply charming! Glad you guys had a nice time, its always fun to catch up with family and . . . get to see Colorado =) I live(d) in Southern Colorado, a little town called La Jara, by Alamosa, but I also lived in Grand Junction for a year, so that was part of my old stomping ground.

I'm almost ready to start my cleanse, which probably won't be as strict, but it will be a good step for me. I'll keep you posted. =) love and hugs!
